Test D-ID tools

Run one test at a time and wait for its final result. PASS means D-ID called the tool. LOCAL PASS means D-ID skipped the call but Sherpa Caddie verified its direct browser bridge. These tests read planning information and do not change a game.

You: Say “Hey Sherpa,” “Hey Sage,” or type a question.
Sage: I’m ready to help you learn, practice, plan, or review.
Video efficiency: D-ID stays available during your conversation, then pauses after inactivity. Wake listening happens on your device and does not consume D-ID credits until a question is sent. Course planning, club distances, weather, and saved reviews remain controlled by Sherpa Caddie rather than guessed by the avatar.

What do tee colors mean?

Many courses use red for forward/shortest tees, gold for a shorter or senior set, white for middle tees, and blue for longer/back tees. Courses can use different colors, so choose the tee by total distance and comfort level rather than color alone.

Understand your equipment

Club terminology and capability

Open any question for a plain-English explanation before choosing or buying equipment.

Wood, hybrid, or iron—what is the difference?

Woods have larger heads and longer shafts for distance, especially from the tee or a good fairway lie. Irons have smaller heads and offer more control for approach shots. Hybrids combine wood-like forgiveness with iron-like length and are often easier to launch than long irons.

What do higher club numbers do?

As the number rises, the club usually becomes shorter and has more loft. A 9-iron normally flies higher and a shorter distance than a 7-iron. Lower numbers normally go farther, but they can be harder to hit consistently.

What are the different wedges?

Pitching wedge handles fuller short approaches. Gap wedge fills the distance between pitching and sand wedges. Sand wedge adds loft and bounce for bunkers and many short shots. Lob wedge launches highest for specialized shots but can be less forgiving.

Why do some wedges use names and others degrees?

The degree is the club’s loft—the angle that helps determine launch and distance. Names such as pitching, gap, sand, and lob describe a general role, but their exact lofts vary by manufacturer. Degree labels such as 52°, 56°, and 60° make the spacing more precise.

How should I shop for new clubs?

Start with the problem you want to solve: easier launch, more forgiveness, better distance gaps, or improved feel. Compare clubs using normal swings, not only your best strike. A well-chosen used club can be better value than a new club that does not fit your swing.

What is the value of getting fitted?

A fitting checks length, lie angle, shaft, loft, grip, launch, and distance gaps so the clubs work with your normal swing. Ask a local golf-course professional, independent club fitter, golf retailer, or manufacturer fitting event. Request a basic bag or gapping evaluation if you do not need a full fitting.

Personal carry distances

How far do your clubs carry?

Use your normal carry distance, not your very best shot. These values stay on this device.

How to Play Better

Build on your practice with clear explanations of fundamentals, course strategy, short game, rules, etiquette, and the mental game.

🌱 Getting Started

The basics that make a first round less confusing.

⛳ Choosing the right tees

Start from a distance where you can reach most greens comfortably. Tee colors vary by course; the shortest set is usually the most beginner-friendly.

🏑 What the clubs are for

Woods and hybrids cover longer shots, irons handle controlled approaches, wedges handle shorter shots and trouble, and the putter rolls the ball on the green.

🧍 Setup and fundamentals

Build a repeatable setup: comfortable grip, athletic posture, balanced stance, clear target, then one committed swing.

📖 Common golf terms

Par is the target score for a hole. Birdie is one under par, bogey is one over. Fairway, rough, green, bunker, penalty area, and lie describe where the ball is and what surrounds it.

🗺️ Playing the Course

Make the next shot easier before trying to make it spectacular.

🎯 Focus on this shot

You are not playing the entire course in your head. Make one decision for the shot in front of you, then reset.

🏑 Take enough club

Many distance misses come from forcing too little club. A smoother swing with enough club is often the higher-percentage choice.

🧭 Read the safe miss

Do not automatically attack the flag. Look for the widest useful landing area and the side that keeps the biggest trouble out of play.

💨 Wind and conditions

Into the wind usually needs more club and a controlled swing. Helping wind can reduce the effective distance. Wet ground reduces roll; firm ground adds it.

⚠️ Hazards and layups

Know what distance brings trouble into play. A layup is not surrender—it is choosing a position that gives you a better next shot.

🟢 Short Game & Putting

Simple choices around the green save a surprising number of strokes.

🥄 Chip versus pitch

A chip flies low and rolls more; a pitch flies higher and rolls less. Use the simplest shot that safely clears the trouble in front of you.

🏖️ Basic bunker plan

Prioritize getting out. Take enough loft, use the bounce, and choose a target that leaves plenty of room rather than chasing the flag.

⛳ Putting basics

Read the slope, choose a start line, then focus on speed. On long putts, getting the ball close is usually more important than trying to make everything.

📍 Where to aim on the green

Center of the green is often the smartest target when the pin is near trouble. Give yourself a putt instead of short-siding yourself.

🤝 Rules & Etiquette

Enough rules to play confidently without turning golf into a law exam.

🧮 Basic scoring

Count every stroke plus applicable penalty strokes. After the game, record only your total score or optional hole-by-hole scores—there is no need to log every swing while you play.

⏱️ Pace of play

Be ready when it is your turn, plan while others play when safe, and keep up with the group ahead. Ready golf is appropriate in many casual rounds.

🛡️ Safety and courtesy

Never hit when someone is within range. Stay quiet and still during another player’s stroke and avoid walking through putting lines.

🌿 Care for the course

Repair ball marks, replace or fill divots when appropriate, rake bunkers, and leave the course in better condition for the group behind you.

🧠 Mental Game

Sherpa’s core philosophy: every shot is a new start.

🧠 Go back to fundamentals

When your mind speeds up, simplify: target, club, one practice swing, commit.

🔄 Bad holes happen

Do not carry the last hole onto the next tee. The score is recorded; the next shot starts at zero.

💭 Your last thought matters

Your final thought before the swing should describe what you want to do—not what you are afraid might happen.

🌬️ Reset between shots

Walk, breathe, observe, then decide. Give yourself a clear separation between the last result and the next task.

📐 Hole Strategy

Think backward from the easiest next shot.

3️⃣ Par 3 strategy

Choose enough club to reach the safe part of the green. Center-green targets beat tucked pins when trouble surrounds the flag.

4️⃣ Par 4 strategy

The tee shot should set up a comfortable approach. Maximum distance is not automatically the best choice if it brings hazards or a difficult angle into play.

5️⃣ Par 5 strategy

Decide whether the hole is realistically reachable or a three-shot hole. If laying up, choose the distance you want for the following approach.

📊 Play your own game

Good strategy depends on your actual carry distances and typical misses, not another golfer’s clubs or yardages.
